Comparison of Characters

Inspiration for our main characters

Researching different openings of horror movies and analysing the characters and how they conform to the stereotypes of the genres expectations, the character that stood out to us most which we felt did conform was the girl from the opening of the movie Scream. As you are able to see in the two screen shots, the girl we created has a similar appearance to the character from Scream, the white top expresses her vulnerability because the colour white connotes purity. The blonde hair is also conforming; people with blonde hair are stereotypically known for not being too intelligent and also makes the character come accross as weaker and unable to survive on their own. The white top and blonde hair shows the youthfulness of the two characters, making them similar to eachother.

You are able to see that we pretty much coppied this character and also got inspiration for her personality as she is a typical character of a horror movie as she comes across as a damsel in distress; she needs someone to protect her. A difference between these two character is how they are reacting to the situation as the girl from Scream instantly shows fear and screams while our character seems more curious and tries to figue out what is going on her her home, she also doesn't show too much fear until the very last shot when she opens the door and screams as the antagonist appear behind her.

Another female character of the same genre we got inspiration from is the girl from The Grudge 2, as you can see from the print screens this character also looks similar to the girl from Scream; they are both wearing white jumpers and have blonde hair to show vulnerablity. You can see in the top image that the girl is face to face with the antagonist, this shows courage which isn't really conforming to the stereotypical blonde in a horror movie but instead shows she walks into trouble, making her personality and how she deals with things different from the girl in Scream. Although this makes the girl from The Grudge different, it means she has the same personality as our character due to the fact she's curious and not afraid to come face to face with the antagonist, this means they arent completely comforming to the stereotypes as they act almost fearless.
